In CASA Marketing Intro to Social Media Marketing, Todd Kelsey tries to get us to understand the importance of monitoring social media and analytics. We want to know how effective out social medias and we can do this by using monitoring techniques and analytics. This could be in terms of how many likes you get, how many followers, how many views, etc.
Monitoring can be divided into "owned media" and "earned media." Owned media is simply social media pages or properties that you control. These are like your Facebook, Twitter and blog posts. These places you can post content, start conversations, and have direct access. Earned media is "everything else" according to Kelsey. Its when people start their own conversations or maybe someone shares a post you have shared or posted. This is like the word of mouth aspect but in terms of social media.
Social medias use their own monitoring and analytics programs. Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics, and Sysomos can all be used as listening and analytics tools. Other digital analytics tools include Radian 6, Google Analytics, and Omniture,
In the social media world, there is a need for speed. Social media is a rather effective. It is a quick way to spread messages a business wants to get out there pretty fast. You can respond to people quick and let them know about new promotions and what ever you would like to share. People want to know all the latest news right now.
Hootsuite as I have talked about before, is a place to put your media together. This will make it easier to share what you want on which ever social medias you want. You can ever interact with people and shared things by posting it one time in Hootsuite and it will go to all your medias. It allows you use their analytics program.
